New to SENCO role support

Being a SENCO can be one of the most rewarding roles in a school that there is.  It can also be one of the most demanding where their role cross cuts that of others.  There can be a lot to learn not only about how the school policy governs the approach to identification, assessment and support, but also how the Local Authority education and social care teams approach support too.

Working across setting staff teams and helping middle leaders understand their responsibilities for curriculum intent and access is an important role of the SENCo too.

As a key partner in their child’s education, parents and families are often keen to be involved in their child’s support provision and understand how to communicate effectively and work with parents as a partner is a valuable skillset for a SENCo to develop too, which Rebecca can support you with.    Regular mentoring sessions can provide some additional support, knowledge and guidance to a new SENCo and support them to build their confidence and understanding in their role.
